Jock Itch Symptoms
Jock Itch Symptoms
Jock itch is a reasonably common fungal skin infection affecting the groin, buttocks and thigh area. It is often red, itchy and the skin may be flaky. Jock itch can sometimes form a ring-like area and be accompanied by a burning sensation. It may be contagious and affects men and women of all ages.
Jock itch occurs most frequently when the groin, buttocks and thighs are constantly moist and warm. It can be caused by tight clothes rubbing against the skin and by sweating.
You can also catch jock itch by sharing a towel or by accidentally touching or rubbing an infected area in another part of your body (such as an existing fungal infection of the feet, legs or arms).
Symptoms of Jock Itch:
- Red, itchy and uncomfortable rash on the groin, buttocks or thigh area
- Sometimes with a raised edge, may form a ring-like area
- Peeling or cracking of the skin
- Sometimes small, raised bumps or blisters
- Sometimes accompanied by a burning sensation
- Sometimes accompanied by a musty (or yeast-like) odor
Jock Itch Treatments
Jock itch can be an embarrassing condition to admit that you have. But you aren’t alone; jock itch is a reasonably common fungal skin infection. Fast treatment can help to stop the spread.
Ensure that the skin is completely dry before applying NU CALMAR Absolute Soothing Cream:
- Apply at least 30-60 minutes after you have had a shower or bath
- Apply beyond the edges of the affected area
- Continue applying for several days after the rash disappears to ensure the fungal spores are dead and the skin condition effectively treated
- Always read the label and use only as directed
- If symptoms persist‚ see your doctor.
To avoid spreading to other parts of the body:
- Never dip your fingers or spoon / spatula in the jar if they have already touched any part of a fungal skin infection (or they are otherwise dirty)
- Wash your hands and spoon / spatula again thoroughly with soap and warm water prior to subsequent applications.
Jock Itch Preventions
Simple things you can do to help prevent jock itch:
- Keep your groin, thigh and buttock area clean and dry
- Whenever possible, wear cotton underwear and avoid synthetic materials
- Avoid tight underwear / jocks and wear loose-fitting underwear
- Change your underwear at least once a day
- Never share towels or clothes with other people
- Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water before touching areas affected by jock itch and before applying NU CALMAR Absolute Soothing Cream
- Change your towels after each wash
If you suffer from recurring jock itch:
- Machine wash your underwear in hot (not cold) water, and add half to one cup of white vinegar to the wash
- For particularly bad jock itch, soak all your clean underwear in a pot of boiling hot water for at least 10 minutes; or
- Buy new underwear (preferably loose-fitting cotton) and throw out all your old ones.
Keep in mind that fungal spores thrive in a moist and warm environment and can stay embedded in clothes, towels and bed linen. If jock itch recurs, machine wash clothes, towels and bed linen in hot (not cold) water and add half to one cup of white vinegar, and dry these items thoroughly before using.
